Excellent content
In the publisher;s introduction to this 2005 edition of the book, he states "Tradition and the Church is an extremely important book, yet bore the hallmarks of a text that had come directly from the pen of the author without having passed under the eye of a competent Catholic editor." I couldn;t agree more. The book is disorganized, scattered and lacks precision at times. The author uses italics and other punctuation in ways that are confusing. It seemed clear that he was not a native speaker of the English language. That all said, i would say the book rewards perseverance. If you can stick with it and read the entire book, you;ll have an arsenal of quotes from the Fathers and Sacred Scripture to use against not only Protestants outside the Church but Modernists within her. Here are a few: "Therefore, brethren, stand fast; and hold to the traditions which you have learned, whether by word, or by our epistle." - 2 Thessalonians 2:14 "Nothing must be introduced but what has been delivered." - Pope Stephen I "Let nothing be allowed to novelty because nothing should be added to antiquity." - Pope Celestine I "Antiquity is retained, novelty is repudiated." - Saint Augustine "If any one says that in the dogma once proposed by the Church it is possible through the progress of science to give a different sense from the one which the Church understood and understands, let him be anathema." - Vatican Council I
