Overview
Modern novels, documentaries, and popular media often claim that the Catholic Church suppressed ancient writings that reveal a hidden truth about Jesus Christ, the apostles, and the origins of Christianity. Books such as The Da Vinci Code and other modern works have sparked widespread curiosity about the so-called "lost gospels" and Gnostic writings.
In this fascinating course, renowned biblical scholar Dr. Michael Waldstein guides students through one of the most influential Gnostic texts ever discovered: The Secret Book of John. Through careful historical analysis and faithful Catholic theology, Dr. Waldstein reveals what these writings actually teach, why the early Church rejected them, and how they fundamentally contradict authentic Christian revelation.
Students will examine the origins of Gnosticism, explore its radical reinterpretation of creation, salvation, sexuality, and human nature, and learn how the Church defended the truth of the Gospel against these ancient distortions.
