The Interior Castle
By Saint Teresa of Ávila · Published by TAN Books
Overview
What does the life of the soul truly look like? In The Interior Castle, Saint Teresa of Ávila provides one of the most powerful images in Catholic spirituality: the soul as a magnificent castle, formed of a single diamond, with many rooms leading ever inward toward the King. This spiritual classic maps the entire journey of the soul, from its first awakening in grace to the heights of mystical union with Christ. Through her description of the Seven Mansions, Saint Teresa provides a structured, experiential guide to holiness, revealing both the struggles of the beginner and the rewards of the advanced. Her teaching is profoundly practical, illuminating the path of prayer with a realism and clarity that only a Doctor of the Church could provide.
“I thought of the soul as resembling a castle, formed of a single diamond or a very transparent crystal, and containing many rooms... the soul of the just man is but a paradise, in which God takes His delight.”
— St. Teresa of Ávila

Excellent Insight
St. Theresa of Avila writes to us in clear, understandable language for those of us seeking greater union with God, the Father, King of the Universe. Read in union with The Imitation of Christ and The Dark Night of the Soul. Both those books become more understandable when read with The Interior Castle.
