The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ

Posted by Ronald Dubson on Apr 16th 2026

In my experience this is the best of all the books by Catholic mystics about their visions of the Passion. The English translation (from German) is also especially good. For years I have been rereading it every Lenten season.

This book is spectacular and was THE BEST book for Holy Week you can get. I LOVED this book and Emmerich's book on Mary also. Could not put either of them down. However the book I had which looked new is falling apart and was published by Tan. I want to get more but need to see if I can get my own glued together.

Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ

Posted by Unknown on Apr 12th 2025

This is my perennial favorite esp during the Lenten season. Based on the visions of Sister Anne Catherine Emmerich. Mel Gibson borrowed heavily from her visions in producing his Passion of the Christ. Sr Emmerich traveled in spirit as a ( you might say) first hand observer of all that Our Lord suffered during his Passion, and she suffered greatly from the wounds of Jesus in her own physical body as a result of experiencing these visions. A poet friend Clemens Brettano committed to writing down what these visions revealed to her, over the course of 3 yrs ( if memory serves me correctly.). You will love this book!

      Inspirational

I have read this book before and have purchased others as gifts. In our world today, we have been told how crucifixion took place and many of the horrible details. However, after reading this book, I can tell you that we have no idea of what our Savior endured for us. I was very moved. It has given me much to consider and reflect upon. Definitely recommend!
