Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus: An Illustrated Introduction to the Latin Mass

Illustrated by Adalee Hude · Published by TAN Books

    Overview

Rediscover the truth, goodness, and beauty of the Mass of the Ages. Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus is a richly illustrated introduction to the Traditional Latin Mass, designed for readers young and old who want to understand not only what happens at the altar, but what it means.

This book gently lifts the veil on the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, revealing the meeting of Heaven and earth that takes place at every liturgy. As Pope Saint Gregory the Great taught, “The heavens open and multitudes of angels come to assist in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.” Through reverent illustrations, clear explanations, and carefully chosen excerpts of the Latin missal with English translations, readers are invited to see the Mass as the Church has always understood it.

The beauty of sacred language, the precision of ritual movement, and the saving sacrifice of Christ offered to the Father are all presented with warmth and clarity. This is not a technical manual, but a visual and spiritual guide that forms the heart as much as the mind.

    • Understand the meaning and structure of the Traditional Latin Mass.
    • See how the liturgy unites Heaven and earth at every Mass.
    • Learn the Latin prayers of the Mass alongside clear English translations.
    • Deepen appreciation for reverence, silence, and sacred ritual.
    • Engage children and adults alike through beautiful illustrations.

    Who This Book Is For

For those unfamiliar with the Latin Mass but curious to learn, this book offers a welcoming, non-overwhelming introduction. Readers who have only attended the Novus Ordo will find that learning about the Latin Mass deepens their understanding of the Mass as a whole, illuminating elements often taken for granted.

For children who are able to sit attentively but need help engaging more fully at Mass, Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus serves as a visual and verbal companion, guiding them step by step through what is happening at the altar and why it matters.

    Intended Audience

Ideal for Catholic families, homeschooling parents, parish catechesis, and anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the Traditional Latin Mass. Especially valuable for introducing children and newcomers to the richness of the Church’s liturgical tradition.

      Sanctus Book

It is even more beautifully and intricately illustrated than I expected and hoped! We gifted it to our 5-year-old for Easter and he has enjoyed it enormously—he turns the pages ever so slowly and savors each image. Thank you!

The illustrations truly bring the transcendence of the Mass to life, and will help young and old alike to follow along during the Latin Mass. Would make a beautiful gift for any child or adult interested in TLM.

      Not what is advertised

A complete fabrication for a description that does not describe the book AT ALL. Completely disappointed in Tan for this.

The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous and bring the reality of the mass to children! My 6 year old can't quite read along with the mass yet, but he is very engaged following along with the illustrations.

The illustrations in this book are gorgeous and I see something different in them every time I look at them. The book is perfect for children and definitely for me as an adult. The print is nice and big and I am using the text to help me memorize some of the prayers.

This is the children’s Latin Mass resource we’ve been waiting for.

Posted by Phillip Campbell on Aug 26th 2025

In reviewing Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus, I believe its applicability may go beyond just children. This would honestly be a solid resource for an adult Catholic who is only familiar with the Novus Ordo to get a basic introduction to the Traditional Latin Mass. I remember when I first started attending the Latin Mass almost fifteen years ago, the missals and booklets available for adults were a little overwhelming. It took me a long time to learn how to follow the Mass. Something like this book would have been beneficial for me to orient myself with the basic prayers of the Traditional Mass without getting into unnecessary details. The fact that it’s a kids’ book wouldn’t have even mattered because it is so beautifully illustrated, it’s simply a joy to look through. I suspect this would be an ideal first step for Catholics who have no acquaintance with the Traditional Latin Mass to at least familiarize themselves with its structure and prayers. My hearty compliments to Adalee Hude for her excellent work and to TAN for publishing this gem. Anyone who loves the Traditional Latin Mass should have this on their shelf.

The illustrations are beautiful! If an adult were using it to follow the Mass, I wouldn’t think they were using a children’s book. Love the hardcover!

      Beautiful

This book has such beautiful illustrations and is a great first childrens missal. My 8 year old loves it. I wish the prayers of the Mass were played out more consistently in the book to avoid confusion though.

Beautiful illustrations and good for kids ready to follow along in Latin

Posted by Erin on Apr 9th 2024

We love the artwork in this book. Even my oldest likes to have this one during mass for the artwork. The Latin is printed first and easier for him to read and follow than the "grown-up" missals. This is a good missal for kids who know some Latin and are ready to follow along.

"It's often a struggle to teach my young children to follow along with the Mass. They need to see it up close and personal, but sitting in the front row with my rowdy children isn't always possible. This stunning Children's Missal showcases the traditional theology of the Mass with a winsome art style, perfect for children."
