    Christianity in the Crosshairs

By Bill Donohue · Published by TAN Books

    Overview

Christianity in the Crosshairs examines the growing tensions between Christianity and contemporary American culture through the perspective of Bill Donohue, longtime president of the Catholic League. Drawing on decades of experience defending religious liberty and engaging public controversies, Donohue explores the cultural, political, and ideological forces he believes are reshaping American institutions while increasingly marginalizing Christians committed to the historic teachings of the Faith.

Rather than viewing these developments as isolated events, Donohue argues that they reflect broader shifts in law, education, media, corporate culture, and public discourse. He challenges readers to examine how religious freedom, constitutional principles, and moral convictions intersect in today's society, while encouraging Christians to respond thoughtfully, courageously, and faithfully to the cultural challenges of the present age.

Effective Steps of Love in Truth

Posted by Joseph B. Feiten on Feb 19th 2026

Bill Donohue’s book provides helpful summaries or highlights of nearly four hundred past articles from the Catholic League or cited third-party articles. I particularly appreciate the 421 “endnotes” giving the sources for the numerous accounts of Christianity in the crosshairs of “the ruling class and radicals”. Pope Benedict XVI’s 2009 encyclical Caritas in Veritate [Charity in Truth], section 7 on the Public Good instructs us that to love others requires both the virtue of love (to will or desire the good of others) and taking “effective steps” to achieve that good. My thanks to Bill Donohue for the book and my thanks to the many (hopefully thousands) who, like me, will be buying and sharing one or more copies of the book so that we together can be providing some of the needed “effective steps” of achieving “love in truth” for the good of our beloved country. In Chapter 3 Thought Control, endnote 137 makes reference to the USCCB’s helpful 2023 “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship” but that fifty-page resource has been updated whereby the endnote’s link usccb.org/forming-consciences-for-faithful-citizenship no longer works. To download the updated resource go to usccb.org/resources/forming-consciences-for-faithful-citizenship-pdf. Chapter 3 mentions “Brussels mayor Emir Kir” banning a conference of conservative speakers that included Cardinal Gerhard Mueller. Belgium courts overturned the ban and allowed the conference to be held. Not mentioned in Donohue’s book is that Emir Kir was the son of Muslim Turkish immigrants and was mayor (not of Belgium) but of Saint-Josse-ten-Nood, a Muslim dominated municipality among the many municipalities within Brussels, Belgium.
