Series Overview

Fr. John Laux’s A Course in Religion is a cornerstone of Catholic education. Written with clarity and fidelity to perennial teaching, these volumes provide a systematic study of Catholic doctrine, worship, morality, apologetics, and Sacred Scripture. Originally designed for high school, the set remains invaluable for college students, catechists, and adults who want depth and practical application.

Together the five books form a complete curriculum: Book 1 Chief Truths of the Faith. Book 2 Mass and the Sacraments. Book 3 Catholic Morality. Book 4 Catholic Apologetics. Book 5 Introduction to the Bible.

Books in the Series

Book 1: Chief Truths of the Faith

Presents a mature and thorough understanding of core doctrine. Topics include the nature and attributes of God, creation and man, the Immaculate Conception, the hypostatic union, grace, the resurrection, and more. Suitable for high school, college bridge, and adult formation.

Book 2: Mass and the Sacraments

Explains the philosophical and theological foundations of the seven Sacraments, the Extraordinary Form of the Mass, indulgences, and sacramentals. Covers Scriptural basis, matter and form, doctrinal development, and effects in the soul.

Book 3: Catholic Morality

Foundations for moral theology. Human action and freedom, Natural Law, sin and virtue, conscience, duties to God and neighbor. Establishes principles for Christian living and addresses challenges from doubt to the evangelical counsels.

Book 4: Catholic Apologetics

Motives of credibility and reasoned answers to classic objections. Why it is reasonable to believe in God, in Jesus Christ, and in the Catholic Church. Recommended for 10th grade in pre conciliar theology tracks and excellent for adult study groups.
