TAN was founded to keep books teaching the traditional Catholic faith in print. That mission remains unchanged. Every title we publish or distribute is meant to preserve truth, deepen prayer, and assist souls in the pursuit of sanctity.
Over the decades, TAN has published hundreds of classic and contemporary Catholic works on theology, Sacred Scripture, Church history, traditional devotions, and the lives of the saints. Many of these titles have nourished generations of Catholics in prayer, study, and devotion.
TAN does not exist to follow passing trends. We publish books and resources rooted in fidelity to Catholic tradition, serious spiritual formation, and the kind of practical wisdom that helps readers live the Faith with conviction.
TAN Books began in 1967 with a clear purpose: to keep traditional Catholic books in print at a time when many were disappearing. Over the next four decades, TAN published hundreds of new and classic titles on theology, Sacred Scripture, Church history, traditional devotions, and the saints. Many of these works were faithful reprints from notable American Catholic publishers such as Benziger Brothers and B. Herder Book Company.
TAN also published original works defending Catholic teaching on major contemporary issues, including abortion, compulsory sex education, and Freemasonry. From the beginning, the company served Catholics who wanted clarity, orthodoxy, and substance rather than compromise.
1967: TAN Books is founded to preserve traditional Catholic works and keep them in circulation.
1971: TAN begins publishing the Douay-Rheims Bible after it had gone out of print, restoring access to the traditional Catholic Bible for English-speaking readers.
2008: Saint Benedict Press acquires TAN. “TAN Books and Publishers” becomes “TAN Books,” with “TAN” representing Tuum Adoramus Nomen, Latin for “We Adore Thy Name.”
2013: Neumann Press is acquired by TAN Books, expanding the company’s offerings in classic Catholic children’s literature, school books, and historical works.
2025: TAN Books officially launches TAN Digital—the premier Catholic audiobook and e-reader app for iOS and Android devices, featuring over 1,200 spiritual classics, devotionals, kids' books, homeschool content and more.
TAN’s catalog now includes more than 1,000 titles spanning Thomistic theology, traditional devotions, Church doctrine, Church history, the lives of saints, educational resources, Sacred Scripture, and more. Yet for all that breadth, the center of gravity remains the same: the interior life.
We believe books should do more than inform. They should form. They should lead readers to prayer, repentance, virtue, fidelity, and deeper union with God. That is why TAN has continued investing in stronger production quality, more durable bindings, improved typesetting, and more beautiful cover designs. The exterior should honor the weight of what is inside.
If you ever purchase a TAN book that does not help you grow in sanctity, return it for a full refund. Our first priority is not merely selling books. It is the salvation of souls.
TAN publishes classic Catholic works on theology, Scripture, traditional devotions, the Traditional Latin Mass, and the lives of the saints, as well as new titles by contemporary Catholic authors. TAN also publishes newly typeset editions of the Douay-Rheims Bible, premium TAN Classics editions, audiobooks, and resources for Catholic families and homeschoolers.
TAN serves as distributor for titles from the Confraternity of the Precious Blood, associated with the Sisters Adorers of the Precious Blood in Brooklyn, New York. These beloved devotional works include My Daily Bread, My Imitation of Christ, My Daily Psalm Book, and Christ in the Gospel.
Acquired by TAN Books in 2013, Neumann Press republishes classic Catholic children’s books, history books, readers, and novels for students from primary through secondary school, helping families and schools hand on the Faith through excellent literature and strong formation.
One of TAN’s most important contributions has been keeping the Douay-Rheims Bible in print. When TAN began publishing it in 1971, the edition had gone out of print. By restoring it, TAN helped make the traditional Catholic English Bible available once again to generations of readers seeking fidelity to the Latin Vulgate and the heritage of the Church.
Throughout history, the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church has given souls the tools they need to become saints. TAN Books exists to place those tools into as many hands as possible. Every book we publish, every Bible we print, and every devotional we distribute is ordered toward that end: helping souls know the truth, love the good, and persevere on the path to Heaven.
