The Joy of Learning:
Our blend of traditional and classical methods provides a well rounded experience for your family from preschool through high school.

With Heaven as our aim, our focused syllabi incorporate a selection of well-vetted resources fortified by the truths of our Catholic faith. TAN Academy’s focus is providing flexibility, affordability, and inspiration with a curriculum of structured lesson plans to prepare students for academic and spiritual achievement.

Families seeking an authentic Catholic education will find TAN Academy’s balanced approach to be a breath of fresh air for their homeschool. Our curriculum can be customized to the needs of your student and of your family.  The schoolhouse-style approach can be easily implemented as much of our curriculum was created for this particular purpose.  We understand that a parent-teacher can’t possibly teach multiple history or science classes all for elementary aged students.  We have filled this need by creating or vetting curriculum that is appropriate for multiple grade levels with more expected of older students.  The curriculum incorporates recommended texts and supplemental study suggestions while also allowing families to adopt alternative texts or programs where desired.

All enrolled families have access to an experienced TAN Academy Coach to advise them on tailoring our program to fit their family’s needs.

Our Special Blend of Educational Philosophies:
A high quality education introduces new skills and new content at an age-appropriate level.

In the early years, children learn through their own natural wonder, gentle structures, and creative expression. They must learn the practical skills of reading, writing and arithmetic so that they are free to apply those skills to more noble pursuits.  You must be able to read to appreciate Christian literature and the writings of the saints and you must know arithmetic in order to see the amazing organization and patterns of God’s creation laid out in the sciences.  Our program gradually incorporates elements of grammar, logic, rhetoric, arithmetic, geometry, music, art, sciences, and foreign languages in a sequential manner.  All of these are necessary for and subordinate to the study of Sacred Theology.  The academic excellence that is the hallmark of our homeschool academy finds its fulfillment in the enrichment of the whole person in light of the Gospel message. Most importantly, our students will learn to serve God and their neighbors with joy. To form our children in the light of Truth, we follow the wise counsel of Saint John Henry Newman:

“God has created me to do Him some definite service; He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another. I have my mission.”

When students focus on the true, the good, and the beautiful, they grow to love and cherish virtuous things of enduring value. Heaven is the highest and noblest cause of our actions, and a TAN Academy education aims to inspire a longing for our final happiness with God.

The Phases of Learning:
Grammar - This is the foundation of all learning, and of all written and verbal expression.  The powers of observation and memorization are established and strengthened in this stage.  The student works sequentially towards creating a firm foundation upon which all higher learning will be based.

Dialectic or Logic - The ability to analyze and to argue are developed during this stage.  Students learn to recognize premises and evidence, and to use their reason to formulate a conclusion.  They want to know the “why” or the logic behind everything and in this stage they learn how to gather information in order to answer these questions.

Rhetoric - This is when high school students use their language and logic skills to focus on speaking and writing eloquently.  They become independent thinkers, often taking on more of an ability to self-educate.

The End Result:
Our curriculum seeks to produce well rounded students whose first aim is to know, love and serve God.  All education should be oriented to this end. Otherwise, what’s the point?

At TAN Academy, we believe that not every family should educate in the exact same way.  Not every child within a family should be educated in the exact same way.  We look for opportunities to provide flexibility and support so that families can navigate what works best for them in any given year with any given child.

We believe that we have solid curriculum choices that ensure an outstanding education for everyone.  We look forward to seeing the leaders, theologians, philosophers, mathematicians, scientists, artists, musicians, entrepreneurs, and most importantly, soldiers for Christ who we have the great privilege of serving during their homeschool educational years.  Thank you for allowing us to be part of your family’s homeschool.  You are all in our prayers.
