I have seen a number of critiques about this book online (from critics who, based on their review, I doubt if they actually read the book) that this book does not cover the history of the Bible, or that it would be more accurately called the History of the Douay Bible, but these critiques are not completely honest. It is true that Where We Got the Bible is not all about just how the Bible came together, and it&#039;s not all about the Councils that compiled the New Testament, but it doesn&#039;t skip that story either. There are a number of chapters that cover where the Old and New Testament came from, they cover the Councils of Hippo and Carthage, the forming of the Septuagint, and they deliver a solid foundation for how the Bible actually came together. Now as the aforementioned topics are only a portion of this book, the rest is defending the Catholic Church and her relation to the Bible against the Protestant lies that have been spread since the 1500s. This includes diving into the history of different versions of the Bible; for example, it mentions in some detail specific Catholic translations of the Bible before John Wycliffe&#039;s translation to defend the Church from the baseless slander and calumny that she was against Bible translations into the common tongue. This does ultimately tie into the Douay Rheims Bible, and by no means is the Douay the specific focus of this book, but it is an important part of Bible history and is brought in when historical context requires it. This book also mentions many errors of the Protestant Bible and the history that led to those errors, which I can imagine was the source of the unhappy reviews I mentioned earlier. In short, if you want a super detailed book on the Councils of Hippo and Carthage, plentiful chapters on where the Septuagint came from, and how the canon was formed in scrupulous detail, this may not be the book for you. However, if you want a brief but extremely informative history of where the earliest copies of scriptures came from, how we can trace those early manuscripts into the modern book compiling those manuscripts called the Bible, some information on where the Septuagint came from and the Councils of Hippo and Carthage, that it is the Catholic Church that is responsible for the efforts of compiling and preserving the Bible and how she achieved this, and a defense against Protestant lies about the Catholic Church and the Bible with undisputable history as proof, then this book is for you.","date":"Aug 7th 2023"},{"name":"M.
